Air Malta today expressed its pleasure following the news that Valletta, the islands' Capital, has won the bid to be the European Capital of Culture 2018. The airline congratulated the Valletta 2018 Foundation, who was responsible for this bid, for a job well done.
Last March Air Malta re-branded one of its Airbus A320 aircraft to promote Valletta's proposal. The aircraft was presented to the media during an event at Malta International Airport.
Commenting on this news Air Malta's Chief Executive, Peter Davies said, "Air Malta is delighted following this news. From day one we have strongly believed in this project and have worked hard to propose and deliver a re-branded aircraft to support this initiative. Our aircraft travel far and wide, especially throughout Europe, and such a livery change provided an excellent showcase for this bid and our Capital. Air Malta holds the values and aspirations of the Maltese community and such a livery change fitted perfectly with what we want to achieve for the airline - a new sense of pride in being, "The Airline of the Maltese Islands".
This aircraft will be flown in this livery until 2018, however in the coming weeks the aircraft's tail will be changed to reflect the new Air Malta livery. This was the first time that such a livery change exercise has been performed on an Air Malta aircraft which involved not only repainting but also attaching large decals.
