ICAO and ALTA Prepare for 3rd Pan American Aviation Safety Summit to be Held June 19-21 in Bogota, Colombia
The 3rd Pan American Aviation Safety Summit, sponsored by the ICAO Regional Aviation Safety Group - Pan America (RASG-PA) in partnership with the Latin America and Caribbean Air Transport Association (ALTA), will feature discussions led by prominent panel members to examine the progress of Safety initiatives in the Pan American region during the past year and to map out key Safety projects and priorities for 2012-2013.
The summit will be held at El Cubo Convention Center in Bogota, Colombia from June 19-21. Registration for the 3rd Pan American Aviation Safety Summit is open at www.alta.aero/safety/2012.
According to Alex de Gunten, Executive Director of ALTA and Co-Chairman of RASG-PA, "The 2011 Safety Summit was an absolute success. It highlighted some of the most critical topics to improve operational safety in the Region, such as Unstabilized Approaches and Runway Excursions. This year we plan to review and present the progress evident in the industry throughout the past year, as well as new projects we know will have a considerable impact on the status of safety. Collaboration between authorities, regulators, airports, operators, manufacturers and aviation associations is essential to successfully bring about change in this important field."
Along the same lines, Loretta Martin, ICAO?s Regional Director for North America, Central America and the Caribbean, commented, "The support we are receiving from states, industry and safety organizations to mitigate the foremost aviation safety risks in the Pan American region is remarkable and the progress is considerable. RASG-PA is committed to promoting aviation safety initiatives in the region and implementing many of the safety initiatives contained in the ICAO Global Aviation Safety Plan (GASP) and industry Global Aviation Safety Roadmap (GASR). During last year's annual RASG-PA meeting in Miami, Florida, RASG-PA members overwhelmingly voiced their support for the Third Annual Pan American Aviation Safety Summit. We thank this year's Summit sponsors for their leadership in addressing aviation safety issues in the region."
Franklin Hoyer, ICAO?s Regional Director for South America pointed out that "RASG-PA was conceived in the city on Bogota in 2008 and rapidly evolved into an example of best practices for collaboration among regulators and industry for the sake of aviation safety. The Safety Summit is here to stay, offering a forum for discussion and networking, involving all stakeholders on the main aviation safety concerns that affect our Region."
